ADD/ADHD Information

Have you or your child been diagnosed with inattentive ADD or ADHD?

ADHD is a medical condition that affects how well someone can sit still, focus, and pay attention. People with ADHD have differences in the parts of their brains that control attention and activity. This means that they may have trouble focusing on certain tasks and subjects, or they may seem "wired,"(ADHD) act impulsively, and get into trouble. Or, they may seem to have their mind wander and not stay focused on the task at hand (inattentive ADD).

Although many people have specific times or situations in their lives when they have a harder time concentrating, that does not mean they have ADD. People with ADHD should especially look for help when their behavior/inability to concentrate is having a negative effect on learning, social situations and/or is making them to feel bad about themselves.

While medication can be life-changing for many people with ADHD, finding the “right” medication for each person can be a bit of a challenge. It may take a bit of a trial and error to find the best medication and best dosing for each patient. In addition, learning some behavioral strategies is key to learning to live well with ADHD.
